Mr. Heine graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975 and received his Master of Arts in Labor History from the University of California, Irvine in 1980. In 1983, he graduated from the Boalt Hall School of Law where he had served as the Articles Editor of the Industrial Relations Law Journal. Mr. Heine began his practice of law in Washington, D.C., representing the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, before coming to our firm in 1985. Since that time, he has represented unions and individual employees in employment cases in state and federal court, at both the trial and appellate level, as well as in labor arbitrations and administrative proceedings. In 1995, he successfully prosecuted a seven-week jury trial against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, obtaining a large settlement in a case of sex discrimination and violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Mr. Heine also specializes in political campaign finance law, especially as it applies to labor unions, and privacy issues arising from drug testing in the workplace. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee and is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
