On the heels of impressive gains for academic student and postdoctoral workers at the University of California, workers at two other Southern California institutions have filed representation petitions with the National Labor Relations Board. Over three thousand graduate students employed by USC in teaching or research related jobs are covered by the petition filed on December 14, 2022. Graduate student researchers at the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School located on the campus of RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California also filed a petition on December 15, 2022. RAND employs over one hundred graduate student researchers. SSDS’s Amy Cu, Daniel Curry, and Margo Feinberg advise the UAW organizing committees on their representation elections.
